BLOG: – Unique Umbria !

Oct 10th, 2017 | By | Category: Our Blog

Buon Anno!

I thought the start of a new year would be a great idea to extol the incredible attractions of the region of Umbria! After all, a wealth of global actors, musicians and film producers, all have homes in Umbria. Ed Sheehan bought a property near Lake Trasimeno in 2017, and therefore joining the likes of Colin Firth, Hugh Grant and film producer, George Lucas. Perhaps what enticed them, is not hard to see why!

Umbria is an enchanting and mystical region which lies next to Tuscany to the south and therefore in a most perfect location in central Italy. Known as the green heart of Italy, Umbria has more castles and towers than any other region in Italy and known as the homeland of saints and soldiers, having more saints than anywhere in the world. Like Tuscany, Umbria is an ancient land and dates back to the Etruscan age.

Umbria the region has a wonderful and vast mixture of panorama, rolling hills covered with vineyards, olive groves and sunflowers, medieval hill towns dot the landscape, mountains with pine forests and its lakes and waterfalls. Lake Trasimeno is no doubt a mystical lake, a favourite with Italians, where you can take a 15 minute boat ride to reach one of the Islands famous for lacemaking and lovely lakeside restaurants.

World famous towns such as Assisi, home of St. Francis, Orvieto, Perugia, Spoleto are all in Umbria. Whilst nontheless less beautiful by any means, are jewels such as Todi, Spello, Montefalco, Bevagna, Trevi. Also Deruta, home to the world famous Renaissance majolica-ceramics.

Umbrian olive oil is spicy and one of Italy’s finest. Its wines are renowned especially Orvieto Classico bianco, the wonderful Grechetto, a fantastic straw coloured wine and for a strong red, Montefalco Sagrantino will sure to impress the most discerning of wine buffs. Umbrian cuisine is rustic and tasty with its wild boar, truffles and mushrooms and wild asparagus all found on local menus.
