February in Italy is a wonderful time for making merry, in other words Carnival time.  Carnivale is celebrated all over Italy, in towns, villages and cities and perhaps the most famously celebrated is Carnivale in Venice, with its opulent pageants and rich colourful costumes, floating along the canals, masque balls and moonlight gondola rides , historic re-enactments and music  You could believe you were on a grand stage set, a theatre in fact, with the mysterioius pale masked faces, all played out before your eyes and best of all you can be part of it ! An unforgettable sight.   Why not take a romantic few days to spend in Venice and also a perfect St. Valentine’s gift celebrated in probably the most beautiful and romantic place in the world.  Carnivale this year takes place between 6 to 16 February.
It is almost impossible to escape the charms of this city – Venice is a uniquely beautiful place. With its mixture of aged pomp and elegance, above which floats a painful air of decadence and decay, Venice deeply touches every soul.

To perfectly compliment your stay in Venice, why not spend a few days or a week in the wonderful Palazzo Giudecca, which is an exclusive complex of apartments in the Dorsoduro district on the quiet island of Giudecca.   An ancient, prestigious building overlooking the lagoon.  The building has a long history: it was originally the site of the Santissimi Biagio e Cataldo monastery,    Following a full restoration the Palazzo now one of the main buildings in the whole of VeTnice.

The apartments, lovingly and elegantly decorated in 17th-century Venetian style, include spacious living rooms, fully equipped kitchens, bedrooms with queen-size beds, and beautiful bathrooms made of exquisite Veronese marble. With their wooden beamed ceilings and excellent furnishings, the interiors are the perfect place to relax and enjoy an unbeatable, romantic view of the lagoon and of its stunning colours, changing at sunrise and sunset.

The dwelling offers guests every opportunity to immerse themselves in all the magic of this charming city, without forgoing the tranquillity, the comfort and services provided by this marvellous complex (such as breakfast service, daily tyding up and change of linen, private boat dock). This exclusive location enables guests to get in a 10-minute vaporetto ride to the Ponte dell’Accademia and the Piazza San Marco. And many a sight can be explored on foot: a walk along the Canale della Guidecca, for example, takes right past the island’s most famous church of Il Redentore.

LOVE IS IN THE AIR…………San Valentino of Terni

For all romantics, why not celelbrate Saint Valentine’s day in beaitiful Umbria, with its breathless landscape and be amongst many who journey to the city of Love, Terni to pledge their vows of love.  This is where San Valentino, the first Bishop of Terni was born and made famous patron saint of Lovers. For most of the month of February,  there are lots of events based on this.  Legend has it that he  married a Christian with a pagan legionnaire because they were in LOVE.   Rome Senate discovered this fact and had him executed.  His  remains lie in the Basilica in Terni, Umbria.  He was executed on 14 February.

This year’s event will combine chocolate……….for what else goes better!   A sweet romantic week-end can be spent in the beautiful Umbrian countryside, whether an old monastery, castle or country hideaway….you will find Umbria’s landscape unbeatable and for reasons unclear, the region is blessed with the most sensational sunsets that only Venice can compare.  I can vouch for this phenomenon, as I live here too..  Perhaps it has to do with having the most saints in all Italy….that’s what I think anyway.

If you would like further information on any of the accommodation mentioned whether in Venice or Umbria, please contact me directly.
