Top Hats and Tiaras welcome in 2009!

Jan 18th, 2009 | By | Category: Our Blog
BUON ANNO a tutti!!    Welcome back and hope you all had enjoyable holidays.

How time flies.  It seems no time at all since we welcomed in the New Year in our lovely Piazza in Todi, amidst an array of top hats and tiaras with most people carrying a bottle of Prosecco (Italian sparkling wine/champagne). Corks flew in the air like bullets at the strike of midnight and we watched in awe at the grand spectacle of fireworks above the Duomo, whilst a fantastic band Latte & Miele (Milk & Honey) provided a great selection of Italian and English music to dance to.  A great time was had by all and even better, the whole event was free.

After the festivities in December, most people consider January to be somewhat flat with thoughts of winter cold on everybody’s mind.  Why not take a week-end break and rejuvenate your body and mind ready for Spring, in a wonderful Relais or Benessere (Healthy & Beauty).  There are many to choose from in Umbria.  In Todi, I can highly recommend a luxury and charming historical Relais.  It is  located in a special place that has panoramic views of the beautiful Umbrian countryside, inside two hectares of land.  The luxury house is surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, with blooming gardens in summer, enchanted by Mediterranean scents.
Here you can regenerate the senses and relax your mind, where you can find yourself and the enthusiasm to recouperate from the daily stresses with reflexology and iridology sessions, or as alternative you can choose a relaxing massage.  For further details, please contact myself direct june.clayton@livinginitaly.co.uk

On the property front………some interesting facts.  According to the latest land registry figures, sales of properties in Northern Italian provinces, saw a drop than those in the provincial capitals, whereas central and southern Italy faired far better with  Florence and Venice being the two best performing cities and even recorded year-on-year increases in sales volumes.  The global economic slowdown is helping to push along some subtle changes in the Italian property market.  The latest report shows that the credit crunch has had only a slightly moderate impact on the Italian property market.

Remaining on property, I thought I would list a selection of what you can get for less than 250,000 euros in three different regions, Liguria, Tuscany and Umbria.  Here they are:

TUSCANY                            Casa Toscana, Caprese Mkchelangelo                   230,000 euros

Casa Toscana is a semi-detached old stone house set on three floors.  Placed on a panoramic position in a rural hamlet a few km from the centre of Caprese Michelangelo, where the great Artist was born.  The property has been totally restored few years ago and is perfect with excellent finishes.  The house is disposed on three levels internally linked. and has 2 bedrooms/2bathrooms.  The entrance is through a small hallway that leads to: laundry and bathroom with shower, dining room and living room with fireplace and to a perfectly equipped kitchen. The staircase leads both to the lower ground floor and the first floor.  Downstairs there is a bedroom with panoramic terrace.

UMBRIA                                         IL Giardino, Nr. Perugia                                     230,000 euros

Totally immersed in the Umbrian countryside, just a few kilometres from Perugia, is this lovely section of an old rustico built with bricks and stone.  The rustic, divided into three independent apartments, is reachable via a white road with cypress trees and has a small garden perfectly maintained.  The apartment lies on the ground floor and the entrance, leads directly to the wide open plan lounge with beautiful brick arches dividing the living-room from the dining and the kitchen. Here three doors lead to the two bedrooms and the bathroom.  The ceilings have wonderful wooden beams and terracotta tiles, while the floors are paved in terracotta.  Accessible from outside there is also the large laundry room.  There is also the possibility of creating a pool to be shared among the other owners.
